The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) said on Friday that 4,761 new companies were registered in Pakistan in August. In a statement, the SECP said that the new numbers takes the total number of registered companies in the country to 311,765. The SECP said 99.9% of company registrations were completed online during the month, while three foreign companies entered Pakistan. Of the newly registered companies, 2,762 were private companies and 1,846 were single-member companies. The press release said that information technology sector led registrations with 872 new companies, followed by trading with 732, services with 601, construction with 295, and tourism with 232. Moreover, Punjab recorded the highest number of new registrations at 2,547, followed by Islamabad with 843, Sindh with 702 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 407. Gilgit-Baltistan registered 151 new companies, while Balochistan recorded 111. The SECP said 134 foreign investors invested in newly registered companies during August, including 106 Chinese investors. In July, a record 5,438 new companies were registered including five international companies that established offices in Pakistan.
