PM directs swift implementation of PIMS fire probe decisions
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed relevant authorities to ensure swift implementation of decisions taken in light of the interim investigation into the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) fire incident. The prime minister chaired an emergency meeting on health affairs and the PIMS fire incident shortly after returning from Kyrgyzstan. Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Health Secretary Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood and PIMS Executive Director Dr Muhammad Salman attended the meeting. The prime minister was briefed on affairs of the health sector and the progress of the investigation into the PIMS fire. The meeting was informed that implementation of the prime minister’s decisions, based on the interim investigation report, was being ensured. “Those responsible for criminal negligence will not be given any concession,” the prime minister said. He directed the health minister and health secretary to ensure their personal presence at PIMS on alternate days and supervise measures for improving the hospital.
