Tebboune Demands Execution of Algeria Arsonists: What Is the Current Penalty?

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune demanded amending the penal code to enforce the death penalty against forest arsonists following a wave of fires that killed at least 12 people. However, current law already permits capital punishment if arson results in death, while the scope of the upcoming amendment remains unclear and could end an execution moratorium in place since 1993.
