'Liar, liar, pants on fire': Ghalibaf mocks US treasury secretary over fuel claims Iran’s speaker of parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has mocked US treasury secretary Scott Bessent for his claim that the US “guided 130 million barrels out over the past 14 days” against Iran’s “zero”. “Liar, liar, pants on fire,” Ghalibaf wrote on X and then reposted an article by Nobel laureate economist Paul Krugman titled “Scott Bessent Fails to Gaslight the Market”. “For real 130s, tell your staffer to pull Moody's showing $130+ billion in war costs, and ask another how much Jane Street burned north of $130 million shorting oil for you in just one futures roll,” Ghalibaf wrote. In his piece article, Krugman had sharply criticized Bessent’s market management and policy credibility. Ghalibaf concluded his post by taking aim at US sovereign debt markets, writing: “Liar, liar, yields on fire.” Liar liar pants on fire. https://t.co/j1Ej9K7hPL pic.twitter.com/BPykaanAOM August 29, 2026
