Fiska is a grocery shop on Nýbýlavegur in Kópavogur which is generally packed in the afternoons and at weekends. It sells a variety of foods from around the world that are often unavailable in other shops. Fiska's growth in revenue has been remarkable in recent years, and owner Árni Elvar Eyjólfsson says the shop has now outgrown its premises in Kópavogur, which are being doubled in size. This has been a huge project for us, father and son: being able to keep up with such rapid growth over such a short period. [...] We're bursting at the seams. Over the past few months, we've realised that we could have a much, much wider range than we do today. He says turnover has increased sixfold since 2020, when Fiska opened on Nýbýlavegur in the middle of the Covid pandemic. He says Fiska's revenue amounted to just over ISK 1.650 billion last year, an increase of 25 percent year on year. Profit was ISK 130 million. He says revenue this year will exceed ISK 2 billion. Fiska is one of several shops that have sprung up in the capital area in recent years specialising in foods that are either unavailable or only available to a limited extent in most supermarkets.
