Ukraine’s Renaissance Legacy

A striking mural on Kyiv's Andriivskyi Descent depicts a woman merged with the city she protects, her gaze recalling that of a former Latin teacher-turned-sniper who avenged her fallen love. The image evokes Ukraine's fight for self-determination — a theme first articulated in 1486 by philosopher Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, born, coincidentally, on February 24. His family's flag even shares Ukraine's colors. Perhaps Pico deserves a statue on the Maidan.
